Hi, my name is Carel. I am an artist producing artwork in a variety of media, including charcoal, pastels, oil and acrylic paint, and graphic design. I combine realism with fiction to produce evocative visual narratives and settings.
I developed my passion for art at a very young age. I’ve recently graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Arts in Art and minors in Art History and Marketing. I currently reside in South Florida, where I have the opportunity to exhibit my artwork.
My art is often reminiscent of medieval times, with a dreamlike perception. When I draw or paint, I try to create a sense of curiosity in the narrative, facial expression, and composition. This produces a dark or mysterious quality in my artwork. I mainly shade and blend by smudging the media with my fingers, which allows me to convey my emotions directly into a piece.
I enjoy reading fictional stories, including myths, fairy tales, and legends, which allow me to visualize the scenes I draw. I am inspired by the stories of different cultures and combine them with my own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I often reference Renaissance paintings and incorporate elements from the Middle Ages. I also spend a lot of time in nature, which plays a major role in the sceneries and backgrounds I depict in my artwork.
